UEN Reflection

The UEN site has amazing capabilities. I was surprised to see how many things we could explore. I was taken aback by the assignment and was very intimidated, but I was surprisingly able to make it through. I did have some ups and downs which allotted to my frustration and confusion. It was difficult for me to navigate, but that was because I am completely unfamiliar with the UEN site. Because I am a P.E. teacher I have been struggling with the idea of having my students sit down and work on computers during class, but outside of the classroom I would definitely have them use it.
Because my job is to get the kids moving and exercising, I feel that it would be cheating the students’ if we had them just do computer assignments. It was difficult to find interactives for the P.E. department that supported learning. I did find one that was a quiz to see how much they knew about baseball, which seemed fun. I would most definitely use the Pioneer Library with the EBSCO, soundzabound and eMedia. With the EBSCO I would assign students to pick an article to review about the unit we are in and how it applies to them personally. I would use soundzabound for them to pick out music when we are exercising such as; running the mile and a half, and weight lifting. I would absolutely use eMedia to watch informative videos that relate to my content area.
I was impressed with the lesson plans on the UEN site. With the lesson plans there, they give me guidance and ideas that could help me with some students. I am always worried about needing to motivate my students and I feel that a large amount of the lesson plans on UEN helped me get a good idea of how I can motivate my students to exercise and participate in class. I would for sure use UEN for myself and for the lesson plans I will create for my students, there is no doubt about it.
The Utah Core Curriculum is very helpful. I say this because it gives us the national standards we need to always be working with our kids. It also has specific objectives that we could focus our lesson plans on. Because they have our standards and objectives, it will continue to remind me what my goal is for my students. My goal as a teacher will be for them to reach these standards and objectives.
