Google Images, Google Video, YouTube
Google images are great for physical education, this gives students the ability to search any sport and receive pictures and information instantly. This tool could help assist them in understanding cues and skills with added visuals. I will be able to assign students to search the web and get pictures off of Google images. Google video and YouTube is great, especially when we’re learning new skills. The students could also analyze videos to see what the individual is doing correctly or incorrectly, which applies to P.E. so well. I personally feel that P.E. teachers really need to utilize both of these tools. These tools will assist in learning new skills and techniques of sports and exercise techniques.
Google Maps and Google Earth
We could have a lot of fun with Google Maps and Google Earth; this would allow creativity and running shoes. I would create projects for students to form a new running route, which means they would have to get on Google Maps and Google Earth. They will have to have a starting point and rap their route all the way back to where they started for a specific distance (the mile or mile and a half). This will allow them to see where they will be going for their fun run. It’s a great opportunity for the kids to get on their computers, create their own trail, and actually run it. After this I would have them reflect on their run and on their new surroundings.
Google News
The news that relates to my subject matter has a lot of information. It includes anything to do with exercise, sports, being physically active, you name it, and Google has it! The students can add the News gadget to their iGoogle to keep up updated and on the news feed. I would use this to stay on top of my field because it is constantly coming out with a new ways to exercise or new equipment for sports and fitness. It will always keep me informed about training and healthy habits. My students will use Google News to enhance their knowledge about their own body. I think that this will be great getting multiple sources of important information about their body.
Google Translate
This is a great tool with being able to communicate to foreign students or to those in which English is their second language. I would use this tool to enhance communication with my students by translating the cues into their language which might help them interpret and or understand the skill better. I will use this tool to enhance communication with my students’ parents by getting familiar with the language and culture. I would also love to bring multicultural elements or other interesting pedagogy into your classroom with different sports. Every country has “their sport” a popular sport that we could learn to play and relate to the students who are of a different culture. This would be a great opportunity to bond the students during athletics.
Google Books and Google Scholar
There are many books and articles that relate to my subject matter that sometimes it’s a little overwhelming. I will use this with my students all the time! Google Scholar could be difficult read, but would be a great experience for them. Google Books has some online books that are completely free for all to see, but some are just for those who want to purchase the book. This is great for the students to receive more text than just from their personal text book, which could expand on their knowledge and deepen their understanding of certain concepts.
Google Blogs, Blogger, and Google Reader
Google blogs are great ways of staying informed by other’s around the world. This gives students the ability to see what people are really thinking about physical fitness. This gives the students a chance to see what they are really doing. Are they performing exercises and skill correctly or is the public misinformed? Bloggers are great ways of being able to voice your opinion and to store information for class assignments. I am not very familiar with Google reader but it was very interesting looking at it, it looked like articles or posts by people all around the world. Students could definitely sort through this information, and maybe filter it and pick out the true facts.
Google Calendar
Google calendar is amazing and I will certainly show my students and encourage them to use it. It can organize their assignments, classes, extracurricular activities, and much more. This tool has saved my life, with everything being so busy. It puts everything in its place reminding me of important information that I might forget. It sorts all the information and helps me not be so worried and frantic.
Google Documents
To create and share online documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and forms are great for group projects. I will definitely use this tool within my class and teach my kids how to use it. I think that even when writing papers this could allow students to revise each other’s research papers and not waste any paper! I have used this tool many times in my life and not only is it convenient, but it also stores all the information. And if a student’s computer crashes they will not lose their assignments. There are a lot of possibilities with Google Docs and I think that it allows students to conveniently work together.
Google Health
Google Health is an awesome tool that allows individual to manage their health online! They can set personal goals, such as; weight loss, weight gain, Body Mass Index (BMI), body composition, and more. It tracks individual progress, which is really amazing as the teacher to see the progression the student has made over the semester. You are even able to share your story with others; family, friends, and even classmates.
